A space for many – Pavilion

A space for many – Pavilion: Welcome

- University projects -

1st year 2nd semester 2016

Cluj-Napoca, Cluj county, Romania

The project „A space for many” attempts to take advantage of the possibilities of public space with a temporary construction, a pavilion. The here presented pavilion strengthens the city gate identity of the Station’s Square, to attract and invite people who are passing by. Near the fact that the pavilion creates a connection with the exhibited old locomotive near it, the structure imitates the train rails, running and crossing al along with the construction as guidelines. The rail structure is designed to be a mechanical self supporting system, which can also be turned/ lifted/ rotated along the half arc on the ends, opening completely a side of the pavilion if bigger events are happening in it. The concept is to convert the lifecycle as a construction. The visitor enters from one of the ends, bending, and here the journey begins. The middle construction can be rotated in two layers, creating different exits, on different directions to the sides, or the possibility to continue the journey until the other end of the pavilion. The visitor can choose their circulation, or even change the possible exits. However, as the circulation is available through many places, the visitor must bend or rotate the construction, or crawl to earn their chosen destination and with this unconsciously being involved in the 'game' and change their natural behavior in the city. The pavilions middle circular structure is covered with class and it can give place for exhibitions, discussions, or events.
